Frequently Asked Questions

What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a healthcare discipline that uses manual techniques to diagnose and treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system and beyond. An osteopath views the body as a functional unit, aiming to restore structural balance to support overall health.

What is the difference between an osteopath and a physiotherapist?

A physiotherapist focuses primarily on rehabilitation and functional recovery of specific injured areas. An osteopath takes a holistic approach: searching for the structural causes of symptoms even in areas away from the pain, treating the whole body as an integrated system.

How long does an osteopathic session last?

A session typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes. The first appointment is longer (60-75 minutes) as it includes a detailed medical history and a full postural and functional assessment.

How many sessions are needed?

It depends on the condition and the individual's response. Many patients notice improvement after 2-4 sessions. Chronic problems may require a longer course. The goal is always to maximise the patient's independence.

What does D.O. MOST RQ mean?

D.O. stands for Doctor of Osteopathy (or Diploma of Osteopathy). MOST (Member of Osteopathic Services) is a recognised British professional association. RQ indicates the qualification is Recognised and Qualified under UK regulatory standards. Marco Buscone holds this qualification in addition to his Italian degree from ICOM.

Is osteopathy recognised in Italy?

Yes. Osteopathy is recognised in Italy as a healthcare profession under Law 3/2018 ('Legge Lorenzin'). Marco Buscone complies with professional requirements in both Italy and the United Kingdom.
